Your dog ignores you outside? It's overload, not disobedience

3 min read

Outside, your dog is flooded with smells, sounds and movement. When it's too much, your voice gets lost in the noise. That looks like ignoring you, but it's overload.

Build it where it's easy

  1. Play the name game at home: say the name once; the moment your dog looks, say "yes" and treat.
  2. Move it to the doorway, then the yard, then a quiet street.
  3. On walks, pay every check-in your dog offers on its own. Don't call for it. Just catch it.

Make walks predictable

Count "one, two, three" as you walk and treat at your leg on three. A predictable rhythm gives an overwhelmed dog something simple to focus on.
